I mentioned gift certificates as a source of revenue in an earlier blog post.
They are great for putting money in b and b owners’ pockets as the revenue they generate can help you get through the slower times.
Some of the advantages of gift certificates are:
- they can be personalized;
- they can be created for any amount,
- they can be used whenever by the recipient as they can’t have expiry dates (in Canada);
- they can be e-mailed for last minute gifts; and,
- chances are it is a gift that won’t be duplicated!
Some of the events that I suggest gift certificates for are date-specific:
- Season’s greetings/Christmas/Hanukkah
- Valentine’s Day
- Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day
I also had a specific page right on my b and b web site talking about gift certificates and made sure I blogged at certain times of year about how great the certificates are as unique gifts for:
- Thank you
When someone phoned to purchase, I used the opportunity to suggest activities that they might like to combine with the certificate – such as tickets to local attractions or gift certificates to restaurants.
The time to have your gift certificates created is when the graphic designer is creating artwork for your web site so it matches. Have them generate it in files that you can insert the appropriate information and then have the option to print it off or e-mail it if necessary.
